American Academy is a tuition-free K-8 charter public school
with three campuses and an emphasis on S.T.E.A.M.
(Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education and character development.
We also offer a tuition-based preschool program for 3-5 year-old children called KindiePrep.
We opened the doors to our first K-8 campus in 2005 in a Lone Tree strip mall with 350 students. We now serve nearly 2700 students at three Douglas County locations.
One School, Three Locations
American Academy's three campuses are located just south of Denver, Colorado, in the Douglas County School District: Castle Pines
(in the City of Castle Pines), Motsenbocker
(in the Town of Parker), and Lincoln Meadows
(also in the Town of Parker). We are proud to serve approximately 900 students at each of our three safe, beautiful, energy-efficient buildings. Each campus is overseen by our American Academy Board of Directors and Executive Director of Schools, and each follows American Academy's curriculum, programs, policies, and procedures. We have an Elementary Principal and Middle School Principal at each campus, and at each of our Parker campuses, we have KindiePrep (preschool) Directors. Charter Public Schools -- Autonomy with Responsibility
American Academy is NOT a private school. American Academy is charter public school and is part of the Douglas County School District, which reviews and authorizes our charter agreement
every few years. This charter agreement gives American Academy the autonomy to choose our own school emphasis (STEAM) and curriculum, and to manage our own staff and site-based finances. But we are held highly accountable for all that we do.
- We do not charge tuition! American Academy K-8 students attend school for FREE.
- We are funded by the state with per pupil revenue (PPR), just like traditional public school, though we receive a smaller percentage of PPR than traditional public schools.
- We meet (and strive to exceed) all state testing and progress standards for each grade level.
- We follow all public school laws and rules.
- We are held to additional and exceptionally high level of accountability for our school finances, our test scores, and our management practices.

Because we feel strongly about serving as many students as possible from all over Douglas County, Colorado, American Academy ONLY enrolls students through our annual random lottery
process. When you join our lottery waitlist
, we collect information about your student's name, age, gender, grade level, address of residence (you must live in Douglas County), and your Kindergarten or preschool preferences. We also collect very general information on special education needs in order to effectively match incoming students with our Student Support Services
. Information on special education needs does not impact the lottery in any way. Every student entered on the waitlist by the deadline is included in the lottery.
