We understand that family situations and education needs may change. If your student will no longer be attending American Academy for any reason, please notify the Registrar as soon as possibl
e. Once you email the Registrar, we will send you a withdrawal form to officially begin the withdrawal process. Please also complete the Parent Exit Questionnaire
. Both forms can be submitted to either the front office or the Registrar
Returning to American Academy After Unenrolling
While we very much appreciate that families sometimes want to return to American Academy after leaving, we cannot guarantee a spot for unenrolled students. Parents must add students back onto our lottery waitlist and go through the enrollment lottery again. The enrollment lottery happens in December of each year for the following academic year.
Returning to a DCSD Neighborhood School from American Academy
Families are welcome to apply to any school in the DCSD through the Open Enrollment process. The school that your student is currently enrolled in is considered his or her "home school".
If you would like your student to attend your neighborhood elementary school, please submit Douglas County School District's Intent to Return (to your Neighborhood School) form (link at bottom of page) and submit it to your neighborhood school no later than January 5, 2019. This will allow your student to attend that school starting in August of the upcoming school year.
If you would like your student to attend your neighborhood middle school, please note the grades each school offers:
Cimarron Middle School, Rocky Heights Middle School and Sagewood Middle School offer grades 6-8. Current 5th graders would need to file the Intent to Return Form (bottom of the page) no later than January 5, 2019.
Castle Rock Middle School, Cresthill Middle School, Mesa Middle School, Mountain Ridge Middle School, Ranch View Middle School and Sierra Middle School offer grades 7 and 8 only. Current 6th graders would need to file the Intent to Return Form (bottom of the page) no later than January 5, 2019.

The Douglas County School District embraces parent and student choice by offering a wide variety of pathways to learning, including neighborhood schools, charter, magnet, and online schools and home education options. Please read DCSD's Open Enrollment and Choice Programming

There are two windows of open enrollment in DCSD for the 2019-2020 school year:
First Window: November 1, 2018 - December 3, 2018
Second Window: January 22, 2019 - August 1, 2019
American Academy does not participate in DCSD's open enrollment process. Please visit our enrollment information page for more information on American Academy's lottery-based enrollment process.
Exiting Eighth Grade Graduates: What Next?
If you plan to send your student to the DCSD public high school in your feeder area, you do not need to do anything right away. You should receive notification from them in January or February to register for classes. The high schools generally send this information home through the charter schools. Additional information is available on the Middle School page of your current campus.
If you plan to send your student to a private high school, please visit that school's website or contact the school directly for more information about their enrollment process and requirements.
