Getting Set Up in SDM

Inital SDM Setup:

  1. INSTALL the School Dismissal Manager (SDM) app on your mobile device by going to your device app store

  2. Each American Academy parent and legal guardian with a separate email address in Infinite Campus receives a welcome email with a username and password in August before school starts.  If you did not yet receive your welcome letter, please check your Junk/SPAM folder or let us know.  Do NOT click the REGISTER NOW button!

  3. Use the credentials provided in the welcome email to log into SDM.   Click here for website.

    RETURNING GUARDIANS - if you forgot your password, click the FORGOT PASSWORD link to reset your password.  

  4. If this is the first time you have logged into SDM, you will be prompted to change your password.

  5. The landing page is the Dismissal Calendar. The current week and the following week will be displayed on your screen. Each day will reflect your child(ren)'s dismissal instructions for that day (and will notate whether its their default vs an Exception). The school calendar has been pre-loaded and days that we do not have school will be notated and shaded blue.

  6. Select the Parent Preference and Student Default menu option at the top of the screen. Review your Parent Profile -- update information if needed. If you do not have an email on file in Infinite Campus and you would like to add it OR if you need to update your email, please submit your request using our Contact an American Academy Registrar form . Our school uses the email addresses in Infinite Campus to send communications to parents, so please make sure your information is always current in IC.

    We encourage you to select the Opt-In for Text Messages in order to receive notices of any attendance or dismissal changes that affect your child(ren). Make sure you enter your cell number and carrier. This feature may be helpful for last minute changes when you do not have time to check your email.
     
    NOTE: if parents/guardians share a single email in IC, only ONE of you will be able to login using that email address in SDM. SDM usernames are based on unique email addresses and only one adult can be assigned to an email address. Both parents may use the same SDM login but a proper audit trail of which parent made changes will not be recorded. If all parents/guardians wish to have their own login for SDM, please submit your request using our Contact an American Academy Registrar form to provide a unique email address so a login can be created for the other parent/guardian.

  7. Review the Student Default Dismissal Instruction for your child(ren) and update information if needed. The Default Dismissal Instructions is how your child will go home most days.  We have set the default dismissal as CARPOOL for all students. If your child's default will not be Carpool (Walker, Homework Club, etc), please update the Default Dismissal Instruction for each child.  If Carpool is selected and you are prompted to enter the name of the person picking up, select PARENT OF... so this allows any authorized guardian to check-in during afternoon pick-up.  THIS IS CRITICAL IN ORDER FOR YOU TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE CHECK IN BUTTON DURING AFTERNOON CARPOOL!!

  8. If your child's default dismissal is different based on the day of the week, click the Weekday Default Dismissal option and choose the appropriate option for each day.  Only use this if the dismissal options are different; do not select the same option for each day.  This is a great option for multiple families that have a consistent carpool schedule or regular after school activities.  For example, Family A picks up 3 days a week and Family B picks up the other 2 days.  Another example is the child dismisses via Carpool 3 days a week and Homework Club 2 days a week. To notify us of a recurring dismissal exception (i.e., weekly ECA), click on Recurring Dismissals Instructions (at the top of the screen).

  9. If your child has a recurring dismissal exception (i.e. ECA or Athletics), click the Recurring Dismissal Instructions located at the top of the screen.  Select the child's name and dismissal option.

    ** The difference between a Weekday Default Dismissal and Recurring Dismissal is 'recurring' has a start and end date vs 'weekday default' is for the entire school year but changes based on the day of the week.
ADDITIONAL NOTES --
  • All exceptions must be entered in SDM by 2:40 pm. After this time, you will need to call the school office to make any changes for the current day. Please do NOT email the teachers with dismissal instructions.  Every day after the cut off, a comprehensive dismissal report is generated. It is critical that we have accurate data for each child in order for AA to facilitate a smooth dismissal.

  • You may select another AA family for your children to ride home with. This can be a one-time exception or can be setup as a recurring exception or weekday default dismissal. You will select 'Carpool' and search for the family by last name.  Please select PARENT OF...so this allows any authorized guardian of that family to check-in during afternoon pickup.

  • If you authorize a non-legal guardian who is also NOT a current AA family (i.e., grandparent, caretaker) to pick up your child(ren), please see instructions.
 
  • Guardians are not authorized to add a PICKUP/VIEW ONLY PARENT from the App Menu.  Please view instructions to authorize a non-legal guardian to pickup your child(ren).
