2020 has brought lots of stress, uncertainty, and “change” to everyone. Sometimes having a system of support and explicit social-emotional instruction can make a big difference!
Please use the following forms to recommend students for small group counseling no later than Thursday, October 8th. Be sure to select the form for your student’s campus; one form will need to be completed per student, siblings should not be put on the same form.
Small groups will begin when we return from fall break, and will run through to winter break. A few reminders:
- Counselors work closely with teachers to pull students for small group during least disruptive times (often lunch/recess or study hall) for about 30 minutes, once a week.
- Completing the form does not guarantee your student will be able to participate in a small group. Many factors go into the process, including scheduling availability, the number of students recommended for each topic, and this year the cohort model will be another consideration. Counselors will email parents of students we’re able to include in a small group.
- While small groups may be therapeutic for students, the role of a school counselor is not to provide therapy. Your student’s school counselor can offer resources and starting points for more in-depth counseling/therapy if that is ever something you feel your student may benefit from.
