The Douglas County School District embraces parent and student choice by offering a wide variety of pathways to learning, including neighborhood schools, charter, magnet, online schools and home education options. There are two windows of open enrollment in DCSD for the 2025-2026 school year:
First Window: November 1, 2024-December 1, 2024
Second Window: January 22, 2025-August 1, 2025
American Academy does not participate in DCSD's Open Enrollment process. Please visit the American Academy About Enrollment page for more information on our enrollment process.
Returning to Your Neighborhood School
The school in which your student is currently enrolled is considered his or her "home school." If you would like your student to attend your designated neighborhood elementary or middle school, please submit Douglas County School District's Intent to Return Form to your neighborhood school (the school you are assigned to based on your residence address) by January 10th. Please reference the DCSD Open Enrollment page for questions and contact information.
If you would like your student to attend your neighborhood middle school, please note the grades each middle school offers:
- Cimarron Middle School, Rocky Heights Middle School and Sagewood Middle School offer grades 6-8. Current 5th graders would need to submit the DCSD Intent to Return Form by January 10.
- Castle Rock Middle School, Cresthill Middle School, Mesa Middle School, Mountain Ridge Middle School, Ranch View Middle School and Sierra Middle School offer grades 7 and 8 only. Current 6th graders would need to submit the Intent to Return Form by January 10.
Please notify the Registrar as soon as possible if your student will no longer be attending American Academy for any reason by submitting a Contact an American Academy Registrar form (select the option for 'Withdrawal'). The Registrar will provide you with next steps to officially begin the withdrawal process.
