American Academy

National Junior Honor Society (NJHS-AA)

The National Junior Honor Society was founded in 1929 by the National Association of Secondary Principals to:

  • Create enthusiasm for SCHOLARSHIP
  • Stimulate Desire to render SERVICE
  • Promote LEADERSHIP
  • Encourage responsible CITIZENSHIP
  • Develop CHARACTER in secondary school student

In 2022, American Academy started  an affiliate chapter of this prestigious organization.  This spring we are proud to invite the third class of NJHS candidates.  Members are selected based on their commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Selected candidates have a unique opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded leaders at school, in the community, and beyond.

Our chapter of NJHS is unique, in that members are selected from all three American Academy campuses.  By planning and developing collaborative service projects, members  have the opportunity to problem solve, develop communication skills, and forge friendships with like-minded peers.

How do students become a member?

Sixth and seventh grade students who have a cumulative middle school grade average of 90% or greater at the end of the second trimester of each year, and have a good behavior record may receive a letter of eligibility the second week of March.  Please see the NJHS-AA Selection Process for Membership linked on this page to learn more.  This year, the induction of new members will take place on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.
