K-8 Controlled Release - Emergency Situation

Carpool is CANCELLED. Students are kept inside. Parents must park and walk inside with a driver's license to physically sign out and retrieve students. OUTSIDE and INSIDE after-school activities are cancelled, including KindiePrep ExtraCare. Walkers must be picked up. KindiePrep students must be picked up as usual.
  • As a precautionary measure if a Lock Out takes place during dismissal; variations to this procedure may apply at the discretion of law enforcement.
  1. Notification will be sent through the emergency communications system (voice and text) and posted on social media.

  2. Parents must take responsibility for their own safety. Because a controlled release is a slower process designed to keep STUDENTS (our first priority as a school) safe, it can result in PARENTS waiting outside. Keep in mind that students are safe inside and immediate student pick-up, while desirable, is not an emergency; students will be held until the parent arrives. If there is danger or potential danger outside, parents are encouraged to use common sense, weather reports, and other available news sources to evaluate the safety of approaching the school and/or waiting outside in a line. If necessary, parents may leave the area or park elsewhere to wait until the line lessens and/or it is safe to approach the building and pick up.

  3. K-8 students will report to homerooms, gym, or cafeteria (or a combination of those locations) to wait for parents. If students are already outside when lightning is sighted or a Lock Out is called, they will be brought inside and sent to these locations at the direction of the campus administration.

  4. Parents must access the parking lot by driving through the regular carpool traffic line in an orderly manner.

    • DO NOT attempt to go around the carpool line to reach the parking lot. Parents should wait their turn in a single line to access the parking lot, even it this happens slowly, in the usual manner. Once parked, parents may walk inside the building to pick up students. Students are safe inside the building and someone will stay with them until a parent can pick them up.

    • DO NOT park against the curb in the fire lane in front of the school. This behavior blocks emergency access to the building, blocks other parents from accessing our parking lots, and endangers all students and staff remaining in the building.

    • DO NOT ask the front office staff to bring your student outside.

    • DO NOT park in the parking lot and call to have your student sent outside. Parents must walk in to retrieve students in person.

  5. Parents will park and walk into the building through the front lobby to proceed as directed by staff. The details of how students are dismissed from this point may vary by campus.

  6. All students MUST be signed out by an adult with proof of ID. A smartphone with the School Dismissal Manager (SDM) app OR a driver's license must be presented in order to sign out a student. Students will not be released to any adult without an ID and an SDM app profile.
